Suicide Watch for G7?

April 18, 2023, 2022 (EIRNS)—Leaders of the G7 nations are increasingly talking about and threatening self-harm, a tendency against which their citizens have to intervene and prevent (economic) suicide attempts.

Over the last days, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen lamented that U.S. sanctions were undermining her own currency, the U.S. dollar; and one of her predecessors, Larry Summers, moaned about how “lonely it is being on the right side of history.” On April 17, Yellen’s friend and European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde repeated her thoughts about self-harm when speaking to the Council on Foreign Relations. “We are witnessing a fragmentation of the global economy into competing blocs,” Lagarde said sadly. “In short, we could see two profound effects on the policy environment for central banks: first, we may see more instability as global supply elasticity wanes; and second, we could see more multipolarity as geopolitical tensions continue to mount.” She talked about many countries avoiding Western payment systems and currencies, among other things “because of the use of financial sanctions in the past decade.”

The IMF on April 12, during its spring annual IMF/World Bank meetings, published a gloomy World Economic Outlook, April 2023, warning that the world economy will be stagnating this year except for China and India; and that over the next five years, China will contribute more than 22% of economic growth in the world, India 13%, and the United States just over 11%; with the BRICS nations overall contributing much more economic growth than the G7. The United States “response” is to continue the Biden Administration’s economic war, trying to stop the main source of world economic growth! It’s a new Executive order reported by Politico April 17, that White House “officials now appear to be nearing an agreement on one key effort to curtail Beijing’s technological and military rise. Unprecedented rules limiting American investments in China are expected later this month....”

The Biden White House on April 17 also effectively decapitated G7 allies’ sales of electric vehicles in the United States by banning subsidies of $3,750-7,500 per vehicle to BMW, VW, Hyundai, Nissan, and Volvo, while granting them to ten U.S.-based automakers.

Even more alarming was the formation on the sidelines of the G7 Ministers’ Meeting on Climate, Energy and Environment over April 15-16 in Sapporo, Japan, of a “nuclear power alliance” of Great Britain, United States, France, Canada, and Japan to “displace Putin from the international nuclear energy market.” This wording in the U.K. government’s statement compulsively avoids naming Russia, which dominates nuclear plant and fuel supply and processing worldwide. It exhibits an obsessive hatred which leads to self-harm: The new “alliance” countries may wait decades for new nuclear power plants, while Turkiye, India, Egypt, Hungary, China, etc. have them in operation much earlier, in cooperation with Russia.

Showing similar delusional behavior which begs for help from its citizens, Germany placed a ban on imports of any nuclear material from “Putin,” while closing down the last three of its nuclear plants on April 15.
