Moscow Responds to Drumbeat for Ukraine To Join NATO Now

April 22, 2023, 2022 (EIRNS)—As the Ukraine Defense Contact Group concluded its latest meeting at the U.S. Ramstein Air Base in Germany, which was focused on trying to arm Ukraine to the point that it can somehow launch its much-awaited spring counteroffensive against Russia, Russian authorities reiterated the central policy points that continue to require their special military operation in Ukraine: demilitarize Ukraine including not joining NATO; and de-Nazification.

In response to a question from TASS about NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg mouthing off about how Ukraine would eventually join NATO, and if stopping that was still one of the goals of the special military operation, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “Of course, because, otherwise, this will pose a serious, significant threat for our country’s security.” As for what the prospects are of that occurring, Peskov stated simply: “No, the Kremlin has no assessments of perspectives.”

Similarly, in a press release on the Ukrainian situation the Russian Foreign Ministry included a response to a statement by the thuggish Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, who, “while discussing the situation involving the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, openly stated that today the Kiev regime has a unique chance to quickly and painlessly physically ‘mop up’ a large number of pro-Russian people.”

“Such rhetoric and criminal actions by the Kiev regime confirm the need for continuing the special military operation until the tasks of denazification and demilitarization of Ukraine and the elimination of threats to Russia’s security emanating from its territory have been fully accomplished,” the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out. It recalled that Podolyak “

also promised to punish the residents of Crimea and Donbass for their wish to pin their future on Russia.”
