British Scramble To Make Sure Peace Doesn’t Break Out
April 30, 2023, 2022 (EIRNS)—Chinese President Xi Jinping’s phone call with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy last on April 26, at Zelenskyy’s initiative, threatened to kick over the war-mongers’ applecart, by opening up a new pathway for a possible negotiated solution to the Ukraine crisis—and with it, a step away from the nuclear brink.
London sprang quickly into action, sending former MI6 Chief Sir Richard Dearlove and others to Kiev on Thursday, April 27, to cut any possible peace initiatives off at the pass—as they have done repeatedly, including the sabotage of Minsk.
The very next day, Friday, Ukrainian Presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak, gave an interview with the British line, trying to sink the Xi initiative by insultingly threatening China that they had to break with Russia, or face global ostracism.
The British have also just restated their standing policy, which is to use the Ukraine crisis to have an eyeball-to-eyeball nuclear showdown with Russia, using Crimea as a trigger—what Malcolm Chalmers, the Deputy Director General of the premier British think tank RUSI (Royal United Services Institute), likes to refer to as a “Crimean Missiles Crisis.” In a new report published by RUSI on April 28, co-author Jack Watling, a RUSI Senior Research Fellow, proposed that, although “there is no current indication that Russia is planning to carry out strikes intentionally targeting Ukrainian nuclear power plants,” the possibility that it “might happen” should be raised in order to “establish deterrence against a deliberately manufactured radiological incident by making clear to Russia that any such incident would be followed by a massive response to mitigate damage and expanded support for Ukraine’s war effort.”
Is the long-trumpeted “Ukrainian counter-offensive” about to take the form of a NATO “response” to a false flag operation against the Zaporozhye or some other Ukrainian nuclear plant? How is such lunacy to be stopped?
In a Twitterspace discussion today with investigative journalist Daniel Estulin, Schiller Institute founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche described the global strategic situation in the following summary terms:
“There is right now a historic, epochal change going on in the way the world is organized. On the one side, it is very fascinating, hopeful, and promising, because the countries of the Global South are determined to create a new economic system which allows for their development. This is going to be the end of colonialism, which continues to exist despite the formal independence of many nations.
“This is a reaction against the dollar, and we have a process of de-dollarization going on. It would be relatively easy to settle this, except for the fact that the countries of the West—the U.S., Great Britain, the EU—are determined to counter this desire by the Global South with all means at their disposal, by saying that this is a fight between the ‘democracies’ and the ‘autocracies.’ For example, Josep Borrell, the so-called foreign minister of the European Union, just called recently for action to convince the countries of Africa, Asia, and Latin America to absolutely condemn Russia, and to not have economic ties with China—which is a losing proposition, because that’s exactly what these countries are doing.
“In the middle of that, the danger of the Ukraine crisis escalating and leading to potentially the end of civilization in a nuclear war, is what should get everybody off their seat.
“The Schiller Institute has been intervening in this by organizing international conferences to try to establish a different level of discussion, by proposing a new security and development architecture which would fully take into account the interest of every country on the planet.”
