Kiev Regime Demurs, We Don’t Attack Beyond Our Borders; Maybe Putin Fired Drones at Kremlin

May 3, 2023, 2022 (EIRNS)—Within hours, Moscow publicly identified Kiev as the source of the drone attack on the Kremlin. Certainly they have debris from the two drones which is hard evidence. They very likely have the trajectories involved in the attack. There may be other as yet unknown factors involved in their identification of Kiev.

From Kiev this morning, first President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s spokesman Serhii Nykyforov issued a denial: Ukraine “does not have any information about the so-called night attacks on the Kremlin.” Then Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Ukrainian presidential office, stated: “Ukraine has nothing to do with the drone attacks on the Kremlin.” He then offered the hypothesis that some unspecified “local resistance forces” within Russia were involved, and added that Ukraine “wages an exclusively defensive war and does not attack targets on the territory of the Russian Federation.”

It certainly is the case that drones have been fired into Russia, and that irregular units, getting funding, supplies and orders from Kiev authorities (variously from the Military Intelligence Directorate, from the SBU and/or Internal Affairs), have been involved in sabotage, and likely assassinations inside Russia. And in the previous events, Kiev issued similar denials.

President Zelenskyy, in Helsinki, Finland, was, though possibly more entertaining, no more convincing than Podolyak. He offered that Ukraine did not have enough ammunition to carry out such an attack—even though only two drones were involved. Then he seemed to claim that Ukraine hasn’t sent teams into Russia or fired missiles and/or drones into Russia: “We didn’t attack Putin. We fight on our territory, we are defending our villages and cities.” But he topped that with his explanation that a frustrated and embarrassed Putin had the drones fired upon his own residences: “Russia has no victories to report.” So, Putin resorted to claims that Ukraine attempted to assassinate him because he had failed on the battlefield and lost the respect of the world. “Because of that, he has to do some unexpected moves like surprise drone attacks,” the New York Times quoted him as saying.
