No Doubts in Moscow of U.S., NATO Involvement in Drone Attack on Kremlin
May 4, 2023, 2022 (EIRNS)—At 12:01 p.m. this afternoon, Russia’s Foreign Ministry issued a strongly-worded statement accusing the Kiev regime of having carried out the drone attack launched against the Kremlin on the morning of May 3, pointing out that Kiev “enjoys the support of Western countries, which provide it with weapons, intelligence data, train its fighters and assign targets. The silence on behalf of the collective West,” the Foreign Ministry warns, “demonstrates its connivance with the terrorist methods employed by the neo-Nazi extremist regime in Kiev.”
Then some hours earlier this morning, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (in Russian) took off the gloves and directly charged on her Telegram channel that “first and foremost, the creators and handlers of the Kiev regime, who hail from Washington, London and NATO, bear overall responsibility for everything that it is perpetrating.” She stressed that Western countries have “eliminated Ukraine’s legitimate authorities, placed opportunists and bandits at the helm, pumped them with money and weapons, instilled in them a sense of absolute license and impunity, and provided them with political cover and military support.”
In speaking with reporters today, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov went further. On the May 3 drone attack, he charged that “such decisions—choice of targets, choice of means, etc.—are dictated to Kiev from Washington,” warning that the terrorist attack on the Kremlin could trigger an escalation.
“Such decisions—the definition of goals, the definition of means, and so on—all this is dictated to Kiev from Washington, and we are well aware of this,” RT quoted him as telling reporters. All denials by Ukrainian and U.S. officials that they had no involvement in this attack are “laughable,” Peskov remarked. “We know full well that decisions to carry out such terrorist actions are made not in Kiev, but in Washington.”
It is important, the Kremlin spokesman said, that the U.S. “clearly understands” that Russia is aware of its involvement in Ukraine and “how dangerous such direct involvement is.”
