France Eager To Cooperate with China for Peace in Ukraine

May 11, 2023, 2022 (EIRNS)—Speaking during the official visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang, French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna said France was ready to cooperate with China on bringing peace to Ukraine. “China plays an important role in ensuring peace and stability around the world. France is ready to boost cooperation with China on the Ukrainian issue and other important international and regional issues, to find more areas of common interest,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry quoted Colonna as saying.

For his part, Qin Gang reiterated Chinese President Xi Jinping’s statement of principles for settling the conflict. “Chinese leader Xi Jinping formulated four principles that must necessarily be respected. This is the starting point from which the Chinese side will take a stand on the Ukrainian crisis and take measures to resolve it,” the ministry quoted Qin as saying. The four principles are the respect of sovereignty, compliance with the UN Charter, taking into account each side’s concerns, and the use of peaceful ways of resolving the conflict.

Beijing is committed to the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis, keep communication with all parties, and will continue to play a constructive role in this regard, Qin pledged
