Six Leaders of African Nations Conferred June 5 on Their Plans for Ukraine Peace Mission
June 7, 2023, 2022 (EIRNS)—The leaders of the six African nations that on May 16 had announced their commitment to a peace initiative to end the war in Ukraine, conferred online with each other on June 5. Comoros President Azali Assoumani; South African President Cyril Ramaphosa; Senegal President Macky Sall; Uganda President Yoweri Museveni; Zambia President Hakainde Hichilema; and Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi, spoke by video conference to map out the details of their intended visits.
They have announced that they intend to visit Ukraine and Russia by the end of June. TASS reported today that the Brazzaville Foundation, which reported that it participated in the June 5 video-conference with the heads of state, issued a communiqué stating that, “it has been agreed that the coordination of the Heads of State visit, including logistical arrangements and diplomatic communication, will be managed by the respective countries’ diplomatic channels.”
Brazzaville Foundation, based in South Africa, was founded by Algeria-born French businessman Jean-Yves Olivier, who currently is foundation president, and has been involved in dispute mediation for many years.
