Victoria Nuland Up To No Good in South Africa, Just Ahead of BRICS Summit

July 31, 2023, 2022 (EIRNS)—The Queen of the 2014 Maidan coup in Ukraine, Acting Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland is now traipsing around in South Africa, and also Ivory Coast and the Democratic Republic of Congo (D.R.C.), officially proselytizing about “regional peace and security” and “democratic governance.” But her showing up first in South Africa, just three weeks before the Aug. 22-24 BRICS summit in Johannesburg, augurs nothing good.

It’s worth recalling the article published on July 19 in Foreign Policy, speaking for Anglo-American interests, under the blaring headline “Inside the Desperate Diplomatic Efforts To Salvage U.S.-South Africa Ties.” South Africa’s close ties to Russia, are “leading to a series of diplomatic headaches that have shaken ties between the United States and South Africa and led to calls in Washington for a complete overhaul of the relationship,” intoned Robbie Gramer, reporting that Nuland, as well as prominent members of Congress, would soon descend on South Africa to straighten that government out.

So one can imagine what the conversation might have been as Nuland led Washington’s participation in the U.S.-South African Working Group on African and Global Affairs, and her planned meetings with South African government leaders and “leaders in the energy sector.”

With its usual meaningless verbiage, the State Department reported that in Ivory Coast, Nuland will address “regional peace and security” and “democratic governance.” In the D.R. Congo, she’ll meet with senior government leaders to discuss peace and security in eastern D.R.C., support for “free and fair elections,” and “democratic institutions and governance.”
