U.A.E. President To Make Offer for Peace Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine

Aug. 12, 2023, 2022 (EIRNS)—According to French-language Lebanese newspaper L’Orient-Le Jour, President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al Nahyan is planning to organize a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin during the COP28 summit in Dubai in November.

According to reports, Pope Francis had been encouraging His Highness to extend the offer. The report also indicates that several European nations have been involved with Abu Dhabi in the initiative, being conscious of the Emirates’ potential role as mediator between the two. While there are details of His Highness’ proposal available, the report says that the purpose of the meeting is to initiate a dialogue that could eventually play a role in bringing the war to an end. The U.A.E. has maintained a good relationship with Russia since its special military operation began in Ukraine, and His Highness has traveled to Russia over the last year to meet with President Vladimir Putin.
