Taliban Signs $6.5 Billion in Contracts for Mining
Aug. 31, 2023, 2022 (EIRNS)—Representatives of Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban signed agreements today with domestic and foreign companies that became the largest deal ever signed since the Taliban came to power with the flight of NATO two years ago. The $6.557 billion in contracts includes plans for seven mines, for gold, copper, lead, and iron. It will also involve some element of materials processing.
The deals were signed in Kabul, and included the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum with private companies from Afghanistan, Türkiye, Iran, Britain, and China. The office of the Acting Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of Afghanistan tweeted on X: “This will create thousands of jobs and significantly improve the economic situation of the country.”
