TV BRICS Gives Major Coverage of Schiller Institute’s Sept. 9 Conference

Sept. 28, 2023, (EIRNS)—TV BRICS, described as “an international BRICS media network with a potential audience of 3.5 billion people,” on Sept. 23 published an excellent article on the Schiller Institute’s Sept. 9 international internet conference. It highlighted excerpts from the speeches of Russian Professor Georgy Toloraya, retired diplomat and Executive Director of the National Committee for BRICS Studies; South African Prof. David Monyae, Director of the Center for China and Africa Studies at the University of Johannesburg; and Argentina’s Rubén Guzzetti of the Argentine Institute of Geopolitical Studies. The website’s front page links the article, which is also highlighted on its Spanish page.

Excerpts of Guzzetti’s speech were also picked up today by the South American network Telesur, which is a media partner of TV BRICS. The mission of TV BRICS, it explains, “is to develop a common information space for the BRICS countries to accelerate economic development, improve the well-being of the peoples of our countries and to strengthen social ties.” The group includes a 24-hour news broadcasting in four languages, a 24-hour TV channel in Russia, and many more affiliated media outlets and social media sites located in each of the five founding BRICS member nations.

Although the TV BRICS headline only refers only to Guzzetti and Argentina, the article reports on the entire conference. Right after the historic Aug. 22-24 BRICS summit in Johannesburg, it states, the Schiller Institute “held a conference under the theme ‘Let Us Join Hands with the Global Majority To Create a New Chapter in World History!’ Politicians, diplomats, former presidents and professors from Russia, India, South Africa, Argentina, Italy, France, Germany, Guyana, U.S. and Japan attended the event.”

After citing the titles of each of the two panels, “The Strategic Situation After the Historic BRICS Summit,” and “A New Paradigm in the History of Mankind Is Taking Shape,” TV BRICS highlights of the speeches of Professor Toloraya and Professor Monyae from the first panel and Rubén Guzzetti’s from the second one. They quote Toloraya that the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg “was truly an historic event ... because this is the first time that the BRICS has declared itself to be on the way, and to be capable of creating a New World Order: It’s really a tidal change ... and this is something that nobody has expected, including myself.”

TV BRICS quoted Monyae’s observation that with the addition of six new members, the BRICS countries are becoming “more powerful.” He said of China, “we are also going to see change,” because it is “the most important country in terms of the size of its economy, and the role that it is increasingly playing in the infrastructure development.”

The report on Rubén Guzzetti’s speech highlights his comment that, in joining the BRICS on Jan. 1, 2024, Argentina will also probably join the BRICS New Development Bank. It adds his comment that “the nations of the Global South, embodied in the BRICS, have given great impetus to the wheel of history in Johannesburg. A range of possibilities has now opened up to our country,” he said. He added that Argentine progressive circles are conscious that the successes and achievements of developing countries united in organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), ASEAN, the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and BRICS, “confirm the change in the world’s center of gravity from West to East, [and] open up historic opportunities for them.”
