No More Funding Two NATO Wars! Biden and Neo-Cons Add Another

Oct. 9, 2023, (EIRNS)—With the outbreak of Israel-Palestinian war which could spread farther in Southwest Asia, the Biden Administration and neo-cons in both Congressional parties have gone from mere consternation over Congressional inaction, to near hysteria to throw more tens of billions of dollars in U.S. weapons and financial aid into NATO wars against Russia, and implicitly against China and Iran.

Immediate requests for new weapons transfers to and funds for Israel’s military forces, are being added to the $24 billion weapons and aid for Ukraine which was denied in the Sept. 30 45-day continuing budget resolution in Congress. The USS Gerald R. Ford’s carrier task force and a considerable number of supporting warships have already, instantly, been sent to the Eastern Mediterranean. In addition, the Washington Post reported Sunday night, Oct. 8, that

“Beyond the Iron Dome missiles, Israeli officials have made several specific requests to Washington in response to the military offensive by Hamas, including small diameter bombs, ammunition for machine guns and heightened cooperation on intelligence-sharing, according to officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss ongoing operations. Some of Israel’s military requests, including those for small diameter bombs, were being processed and expedited, said one official.”

House Foreign Relations Committee Chair Michael McCaul (R-TX) on Sunday talk shows demanded the House immediately produce a new Speaker to avoid being shamed as cowards before “the ayatollahs of Iran.” McCaul is one of those concocting a resolution supposedly to undo the Oct. 2 removal of Kevin McCarthy and make him Speaker again immediately. McCarthy, in a Sunday morning interview on the Hugh Hewitt program, completely reversed his statements of last week and said he was ready to reassume the Speaker’s chair (“whatever the caucus wants”); and that if he were Speaker now, he would be rallying aid to defend Israel by giving aid from the United States and its allies. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) on Fox News Sunday insisted on “giving Israel what it needs to win”; Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) had expressed the same view via social media on Oct. 7.

These statements posed an unanswered question: How can the United States defend Israel when the government of Israel does not defend it?

At the same time, according to Antiwar.com, Senators including Lindsey Graham (R-NC) propose upping the Ukraine demand to $70 billion in new spending for 2024 alone. The Biden Administration is reported (by London’s Telegraph to be considering going beyond that, demanding $100 billion in new Ukraine aid, to take the funding of NATO war operations against Russia right through the 2024 elections.

All these new war funds would be borrowed through the currently extremely volatile U.S. Treasury securities market.
