Congressional Day of Action Nov. 17

"Congress must act fast: Dump free trade; intervene to protect and retool the U.S. auto industry," will be the message of a large delegation of United Auto Workers members from Ohio, and trade unionists and local elected officials from Detroit and other locations around the country, who will rally outside the U.S. Capitol on Thursday morning, Nov. 17, and then lobby members of Congress. They will be joined by a large number of young organizers of the LaRouche Youth Movement.
At the rally at 11:00 a.m., at Independence and First Street SE outside the Capitol, speakers will include Debra Freeman, national spokeswoman for Lyndon LaRouche; Mark Sweazy, president of UAW Local 969 at the Delphi Corp. plant in Columbus, Ohio; and other labor leaders and local elected officials. Hundreds of people will then go to Congressional offices for meetings.
An urgent proposal for Congressional intervention to protect the U.S. auto industry from collapse, and give it an infrastructure-building mission, was first circulated by Lyndon LaRouche in April. Since a similar but smaller Congressional day of action was held one month ago, some Members of Congress and other elected officials have publicly recognized the need for a Federal intervention to reverse the escalating crisis in the auto sector.
