LaRouche Denounces Steil's Call for Global Currencies As ‘Persian Model of Empire’

April 30, 2007 (EIRNS)—The following release was issued today by the Lyndon LaRouche Political Action Committee.

Lyndon LaRouche has denounced Benn Steil's call for an end to sovereign currencies as an attempt to revive the Persian Model of a concert of global empires, and the later Venetian model of private oligarchical rule.

Steil, the Director of International Economics at the New York Council on Foreign Relations, penned an essay in the May/June 2007 issue of the Council's Foreign Affairs magazine, calling for the establishment of three global currency blocs, a dollar bloc for the Americas, a euro bloc for Eastern and Western Europe, and an Asian bloc, subsuming both China and Japan.

LaRouche described the scheme as a "tripartite" revival of the Persian idea of an eastern and western divison of a one-world empire, which was at the heart of the Persian campaign to destroy Greece towards the close of the Peloponnesian Wars. The same insane idea was later fostered by Venice.
