LaRouche Denounces DNC's Florida/Michigan Disenfranchisement

June 1, 2008 (EIRNS)—This release was issued on May 31 by the Lyndon LaRouche Political Action Committee (LPAC).

Lyndon LaRouche responded immediately to today's decision by the Rules Committee of the Democratic National Committee, granting Michigan and Florida delegates to the Denver nominating convention only one-half a vote each. After a public hearing in Washington, D.C., the Rules Committee voted to strip the two state of half their delegate votes, ostensibly because they violated party rules in scheduling early primary elections.

LaRouche denounced the decision as "immoral, unconstitutional and totally unacceptable." LaRouche described it as a non-decision, in the sense that the matter is not settled, and will now likely be fought out at an upcoming meeting of the Credentials Committee, and perhaps on the floor of the convention in Denver in late August. LaRouche denounced the decision as a "fraudulent concoction, ignoring the rights of citizens to be represented in the primaries."

In earlier statements, LaRouche had denounced the idea of giving Florida voters half of their representation as "a return to slavery. Except, even slaves were counted as three-fifths of a citizen."
