PRESS RELEASE
Somalia Permanent War Quagmire Deepens
Nov. 1, 2011 (EIRNS)—This release was issued today by the Lyndon LaRouche Political Action Committee.
Ever since Obama announced Oct. 14, that he was sending a 100-man contingent to Uganda, part of the greater Horn of Africa area, the permanent war situation in Somalia is more and more taking on the appearances of the war in Afghanistan, which will never end.
Yesterday, a Kenya aircraft struck an displaced persons (IDP) camp, killing five civilians, mostly women and children; the IDP camp of 7,500 was near the the town of Jilib, according to Doctors Without Borders; 40-50 others were wounded. According to reports, the town was hit based on intelligence that a senior Shabaab leader was visiting the area.
Kenya's open-ended military incursion into Somalia, begun Oct. 14, ostensibly to combat the radical Islamist Shabaab, is only serving to deepen the crisis, tempting more nations in the region to get involved in the conflict. French President Sarkozy is also encouraging these developments. The French transported materiel to the Kenya-Somalia border area to enable the Kenyan intervention. The Somali President fears that the intervention will create another autonomous area in Somalia, putting the region of Somalia bordering Kenya under the control of someone beholden to interests outside of Somalia.
