PRESS RELEASE
Indiana House Becomes the Third
State Legislature To Pass
Memorial for Glass-Steagall
April 15, 2013 (EIRNS)—On April 11 the Indiana General Assembly became the third state legislature to pass a Memorial demanding that Congress re-enact Glass-Steagall. Both South Dakota and Maine have passed a similar resolution in support of HR 129, the Kaptur-Jones "Return to Prudent Banking Act." Lyndon LaRouche PAC's mobilization for Glass-Steagall in Washington, D.C., where there are now 53 sponsors in the House, but no companion bill in the Senate, will be further strenghtened by this news.
Indiana House Resolution 0086 was sponsored by two leaders of the Ways and Means Committee, one Republican and one Democrat, and passed the same day by acclamation. Passage of the resolution in the Indiana Senate remains a distinct potential for the days ahead.
The Indiana General Assembly is dominated by Republicans, as is that of South Dakota. The Maine legislature is dominated by Democrats. It is clear that restoring Glass-Steagall is move that has bipartisan support, nationwide.
