Dramatic New Move for
Banking Separation in Italian Senate
July 2, 2013 (EIRNS)—The entire Senate faction of the Five Star Movement (led by Beppe Grillo) in Italy today introduced a bill calling for banking separation along the lines of FDR's Glass-Steagall Act. The faction contains 48 Senators, whose names are all on the bill. According to EIR sources, the resolution has strong similarities to one introduced and passed May 17 in the Regional Assembly of Tuscany, one of Italy's provinces. This bill then joins one introduced by Senator and former Economics Minister Giulio Tremonti, on March 28. Two similar bills have been introduced in the House of Deputies.
See the June 28 EIR for an update as of June 26.
