Helga Zepp-LaRouche Tells Germany: Drop NATO, Which Is Turning Against Asia

June 20, 2020 (EIRNS)—Congressional Democrats will pass legislation to try to block American troop withdrawals from Germany announced by President Donald Trump. Their bill was introduced this week by the reliable pair of chicken-hawks, Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) and Rep. Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.); it imposes a number of severe conditions which would prevent the withdrawal. Plenty of Republicans are likely to back it.

Both Menendez and Engel claimed Russian President Vladimir Putin is the author of the withdrawal: Engel: “Rather than heeding the overwhelming bipartisan rebuke from Congress about this scheme and its catastrophic consequences, President Trump has once again made foreign policy decisions based solely on his absurd affection for Vladimir Putin, a murderous dictator who has attacked America and our allies.”

Helga Zepp-LaRouche, in her lead article in the Neue Solidarität weekly on June 20, points out: “Far more important than the commotion over Trump’s not very partner-like style, are the plans presented by NATO General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg at the latest virtual meeting of NATO Defense Ministers, to expand NATO into the Asia-Pacific region. Because the entire trans-Atlantic war-hawk faction, such as the Atlantic Council, German Marshall Fund, the disastrous Zbigniew’s son Ian Brzezinski, and various other think-tanks, insist on the globalization of NATO and the strengthening of its relations with global partners like Australia, Japan, South Korea, and New Zealand. Special efforts are targeted to bind India into the Indo-Pacific Partnership strategy for the encirclement of China. Brzezinski even wants to establish a NATO headquarters in the Pacific region from which to coordinate a NATO maneuver, and which would in no wise be limited to simply military operations, but would be tasked to mobilize the entire bandwidth of diplomatic, economic, technological, social, and military capacities and dynamics to demonstrate the West’s geopolitical power. The Economist commented that the real discussion in NATO, much more important than the short-term German-U.S. tensions, is of plans to oppose NATO to the rise of China in the next decade, and thus give it a purpose for existence to the year 2030.”

Zepp-LaRouche concludes:

“The actual interests of the sovereign nations America, Germany, Russia, China, and other states are incompatible with the structures of a world government which serves only the interests of the oligarchy. It is past time that Germany cancel the so-called troop statute and its membership in NATO. A new security architecture is needed, accounting for the interests of all nations on the planet.”
