The fag-end of Lord Jacob Rothschild’s Inter-Alpha system of bankrupt banks has now arrived. This poses a clear choice: Either adopt LaRouche’s proposal for a revived Glass-Steagall Act, to create a “bad bank” in which all the trillions in toxic assets can be safely deposited, and get on with the happy task of rebuilding the world economy, with great projects like NAWAPA, and a return to manned space flight, or, the alternative, which will really make no one happy: a New Dark Age like that of the 14th Century. Why would we not take the former path? Because, as LaRouche writes, we would be unwilling to give up our insane attachment to the Sarpian “pleasure-pain” syndrome, including our continuing toleration of the mental case who presently occupies the White House.

The most positive and forward-looking development of the past week occurred at the annual meeting of the European Geophysical Union in Vienna April 4-8, writes Helga Zepp-LaRouche. Scientists presented their research, which, taken as a whole, will probably very soon make it possible to forecast major earthquakes in time to evacuate people in the relevant areas and bring them to safety.
